万年洞位于我国彭亨州而连突, 距离吉隆坡约216公里. 万年洞是一座山峦叠起的石灰岩洞, 在蓝天白云衬托之下, 特显气势磅礴. 万年洞约有500公顷, 距今已有130万年历史, 根据英国探测家 W. Cameron(金马仑高原的开发人) 在1882年的记载, 这里曾被一位名叫Raja Gelanggi的国王所统治, 而获名Gua Kota Gelanggi. 这里发现了138个石灰岩洞, 有10个石灰岩洞是供游人游览的, 如: Gua Gajah, Gua Terang Bulan, Gua sanding, Gua Tongkat, Gua Penyu, Gua Gelap, Gua Tangga 99, Gua Angin, Gua Kelawa等. 最著名的就是Gua Balai (又称Gua Kepayang), 根据马来四亚的历史记载这里就是彭亨州的勇士Mat Kilau逃避英兵的蒇身之地. 民间也流传, 这里是当时你的彭亨苏丹和勇士商讨对抗英政府秘密会议的地方。

要去万年洞就得换上“战衣”, 携带手电筒, 矿泉水, 帽子, 毛巾等. 请把所有的东西都收进被包里, 确保手上没有拿任何东西. 走入茂密的热带雨林, 途径可见浑然天成的地下队道, 数万年涓涓滴水造就的“石灰岩”体, 千姿百态, 挺拔的石笋, 状若果树, 枝桠纵横, 串串石花. 其中还有形如熟透的佛手果, 天然形成一座不偏不倚, 一辆巴士刚好可以穿过的地下队道, 叫人不得不佩服大自然的鬼斧神功。

进洞之前必需做简单的热身运动. 入洞的规则, 一是不得喧哗, 以免干扰洞里生物生态: 二是不留下垃圾, 也不准带走洞里的任何东西. 事实上, 这条路很少有人走。

月亮洞是万年洞里唯一有灯火照明的岩洞. 其洞幽深奇长的底下长廊, 神奇迷人! 月亮洞里的钟乳石受到一级保护, 游人和钟乳石被栏杆隔著一段距离, 因此游人不可能贴近月亮洞里的钟乳。

万年洞里最吸引人的是活钟乳. 一座活钟乳需花上60年的时间才长2－3cm, 所以千万不要触摸它, 因为它无时无刻都在“成长”, 也就是说它每时每刻都在变化, 无限的变化就是它价值所在. 被人手触摸过的钟乳就无法再生长了, 几百年的钟乳从就这样被破坏了. 人类从赤身裸体到穿皮鞋, 不过数万年的时光, 但钟乳石的生长, 竟是万年, 十万年, 什至上亿年! 万年洞的石灰岩在130万年前是由海洋珊瑚礁所形成, 随著地壳变动, 海底板块渐渐潜入大陆板块下, 地层的一部份就象叠衣服一样被翻转过来, 万年洞的地势就这样形成. 因此, 在万年洞里还可看见沙滩, 贝类, 千苍百孔的岩礁等. 最惊人的发现是一座万年前是海洋的岩洞, 岩洞被一座大峡谷给包围著, 在洞顶天然形成一个天井. 曙光从天井外照射进来, 刚好照射在一块大岩石上, 这里无疑就是个蓬莱仙境! ! !
